Common General Liability Coverages
  • Premises and Operations
Liability arising from your premises or operations in progress, on or off your premises.
  • Products/Completed Operations
Liability for injury or damage caused by your products or by your completed work (a separate policy may be required for some types of products).
  • Personal Injury
Unintentional slander, libel, false arrest or wrongful entry.
Who Needs This Insurance?

Any company that has property, equipment, office furniture, and/or that operates off-site on the premises of another company.

General Liability &
Property Insurance
General Liability covers your company's legal responsibility for the harm it may cause to others:
  • Bodily injury
  • Property damage or loss
  • Personal injury, slander, libel, advertising injury
  • Also covers cost of legal defense
Property insurance commonly covers direct physical damage to your property by fire, theft, or other means:

  • Building
  • Furniture
  • Fixtures
  • Stock
  • Equipment
  • And other contents inside your building
Note that General Liability does not cover loss due to your professional errors or negligence, which is normally covered by Errors and Omissions Insurance.
  • Advertising Injury
Unintentional slander, libel, infringement of copyright, trademark or slogan arising from your firm's advertising. Companies in the advertising business and web-based firms typically are not covered. TechShield can provide specialized coverage.
  • Independent Contractors
Your liability for bodily injury or property damage arising out of work done for you by an independent contractor. Coverage is not provided for the contractor, who should have his or her own insurance.
  • Contractual Liability
The General Liability provides certain coverages for bodily injury and property damage liability assumed under contract (review policy regarding specific wording).
  • Business Income and Extra Expense
Business Income and Extra Expense, also known as Business Interruption Insurance, are included in the Property coverage section of a Businessowners Policy. Coverage provides for the loss of business income that results from a fire or other catastrophe that disrupts the operation of your business. Coverage can also include the extra expense incurred to continue operations in a temporary location, in the event of a covered loss to your property.
  • Medical Payments
Pays the medical bills of non-employees (for example, a guest falls on your premises) without actually establishing your legal liability. This coverage functions as a goodwill gesture, intended to avoid litigation.
  • Fire Damage Legal Liability
Your liability for fire damage to leased or rented premises that your firm occupies.
  • Workers Compensation
Workers Compensation policies include two basic coverages. The first coverage provides benefits for employees injured on the job. These benefits are determined by state law. The second coverage is Employer's Liability. This section covers suits by employees against their employers for job-related accidents. Suits can also come from family members of employees. Workers Compensation laws often limit the liability of employers to employee suits, but suits are still possible.
  • Umbrella and Excess Liability
Umbrella polices provide additional amounts of insurance over other insurance policies. Excess policies do not add additional coverages. They simply provide additional amounts of insurance over the underlying policies.
Other Miscellaneous Coverages
  • Business Automobile Coverage
Auto insurance provides protection for company-owned vehicles, leased or rented vehicles and your employees' vehicles used in the conduct of company business activity. It can be customized to provide coverage in case of injury to others or their property, or for damaging other vehicles.
  • Crime Coverages
The loss of money is usually excluded under standard property polices. Losses involving employee dishonesty may also be restricted. Crime policies offer a package of coverages that are important to many organizations.
